THE TRUTH: The quality of a women's egg declines with age regardless of how healthy she is. The optimal age to have children is under the age of 28. Some experts estimate that in 35-year old women, approximately 1 in 2 eggs are likely to have chromosmal abnormalities ; and about 90 percent of eggs are abnormal in women aged 42 and older. And with fewer viable eggs, you fertrility rate declines. Excercising and eating a low -fat diet full of fruits, vegetables and whole grains does not help to conceive, but only prevents developing certain conditions that decrease your ability to concieve, such an obesity.
THE
TRUTH: Stress may play a role, but it's not the most common culprit (
ovarian dysfunction, which means are not are not ovulating regulary,
is). The data showing that stress affects fertility is very weak. Part
of a problem is that stress is difficult to measure. There are plenty
of examples in which women under immense amount of stress conceive and
deliver babies - in war times, for example. Indeed, fertility increases
during the war time and right after it.
THE TRUTH: Getting your period around the same day every month indicates that you are ovulating regularly, but it does not ensure that the eggs are good quality. Many things factor into fertility, including the health of your reproductive system. Your fallopian tubes( through which the egg travels to get fertilized) could be blocked, and you'll still get regular monthly periods.
THE TRUTH: Sperm lives for about 38 to 72 hours in your reproductive truct, so there is no need to, um, overload it. Having sex more than once a day for few days in a row may reduce sprm count. Figure out when you ovulate, and have sex every other day two to three days before and after that. You ovlulate aproximately 14 days before you get your period: so if your cycle is 28 days, you ovulate on or around day 14.
THE TRUTH: You are older the second time, and your reproductive system change over the years. New research shows that a guy's sperm quality also declines with age when males reach 40. A study of about 2000 couples undergoing IVF found that pregnancy attempt were 70 percent more likely to fail if the man was 40 or older.
